Introducing VendorBud: A Simpler Way to Run Your Booth
Introducing VendorBud: A Simpler Way to Run Your Booth
I'm genuinely excited to introduce something we've been building at ModernEdge IT: VendorBud, a simple pop-up register made for the folding-table economy — the bake sales, craft fairs, farmers markets, and fundraisers that keep our communities running. If you've ever worked a booth with a cash box in one hand, a calculator in the other, and a line of people waiting while you count out change, this one's for you.
Why we built it
Most of the "point of sale" world is built for stores with a counter, a cash drawer, a card terminal, and a monthly software bill. That's great if you're a coffee shop. It's overkill — and honestly a little intimidating — if you're a church group selling pies for one Saturday, a crafter doing a handful of shows a year, or a booster club running the concession stand.
So people improvise. They use a spreadsheet that's hard to tap through with cold fingers. They keep a paper tally that turns into a shoebox of receipts. They do change math in their head while the next three customers wait. And at the end of the day, nobody's quite sure how much came in, what sold, or how it all reconciles against the cash in the box.
VendorBud is our answer to that. It turns the phone or tablet you already carry into a fast, friendly register — no counter, no terminal, no monthly plan. You set it up once, and then you just run your day.
Who it's for
VendorBud is for the people who are the whole operation. Bake sale organizers. Craft and art vendors at weekend markets. Farmers market sellers. School clubs, sports boosters, scout troops, and PTAs. Churches and nonprofits running a fundraiser. Pop-up shops, holiday markets, and anyone who sets up a table, sells for a few hours or a few days, and then packs it all up again.
If that's you, you probably don't need — and don't want — a complicated system. You need something you can hand to a volunteer who's never seen it before and have them ringing up sales in about a minute. That's exactly the bar we set for VendorBud.
What it actually does
You start by setting up your items and prices once — "Chocolate chip cookie, $2.00," "Fudge brownie, $3.00," and so on — along with your starting cash drawer. From there, selling is just tapping. Add what the customer's buying, and the amount due updates on a big, clear register display anyone can read across a crowded table.
When it's time to take the money, VendorBud does the fiddly parts for you. Take cash and it figures the change automatically — no mental math, no mistakes when you're tired at hour six. It handles split payments, too: if someone's a few dollars short on cash, you can take part now and VendorBud tracks the balance due until the ticket is settled. You can add a tip or donation on its own line, switch on sales tax at your rate when you need to collect it, and even keep a starting inventory count that ticks down as things sell, so you know at a glance what's left.
At the end of the day, you close out with a clean report — what sold, cash versus card, tips and donations, and inventory remaining — that you can print or save for your records. You can print a tidy receipt for any customer who wants one, lock down setup and resets behind a manager password so a helper can't accidentally wipe your day, and save the whole thing to your home screen so it opens like an app.
One important thing: it records, it doesn't process
I want to be really clear about this, because it matters. VendorBud records your sales — it does not process credit card payments. It isn't a card reader or a payment processor. You keep taking payment however you already do it: cash in the box, your existing card reader, a payment app, whatever works for you. VendorBud's job is to keep your totals straight — cash and card recorded separately — so your books make sense at the end of the day.
That's a feature, not a limitation. Because VendorBud never touches the transaction, it never takes a cut of your sales. There are no per-swipe fees eating into a fundraiser's margins, no percentage skimmed off every cookie. You keep what you make; VendorBud just helps you count it.
Works when the internet doesn't
Anyone who's worked a fairground or a park pavilion knows the signal can be terrible. VendorBud is built for that. You activate it online once when you first set it up, and after that it runs entirely on your device — no cloud, no account to sign into, no dead zone ruining your afternoon. Your data stays on your device, right where you can see it. It runs on just about any phone or tablet, so there's no special hardware to buy or rent.
Pay once. It's yours.
Here's the part I'm proudest of, because it's how I'd want to be treated as a customer. VendorBud is a flat $50, one time, plus sales tax — for one device — and then you own it. No subscription. No monthly fee. No per-sale cut. No expiration date hanging over your head.
Most tools in this space want to rent themselves to you forever or take a slice of everything you sell. For a group that only does a few events a year, that math never works out. A one-time $50 does. Buy it, use it for this weekend's sale and next year's, and it just keeps working.
Try it before you spend a dime
You don't have to take my word for any of this. We put a live demo right on the website — the real selling experience, loaded with a sample table of goods — so you can try it yourself in your browser. Add a few items, take a cash sale, watch it figure the change, run a split payment. It takes about thirty seconds to see whether it fits how you work.
Head to vendorbud.com and give it a spin. If it feels right, getting your own copy is easy: just reach out and we'll get you set up.
Made here, supported here
